What to do when a swap succeeds on the blockchain but the site shows nothing

Here is why this happens, and what steps to take.
The most common cause: the site is looking at the wrong transaction
Every cryptocurrency exchange or swap service monitors the blockchain for incoming payments by watching specific addresses. When you send funds, the blockchain records the transaction permanently. The site, however, may not have seen it yet. This can happen for several reasons:
- The site's node is behind. If the site relies on a single node or a slow connection to the blockchain, it may take minutes or even hours to register a transaction that the rest of the network already considers final.
- The transaction used a low fee. If you sent the swap with a fee that was lower than what the site's system expects, the site may not acknowledge the transaction until it has accumulated enough confirmations. Some sites ignore unconfirmed transactions entirely.
- The address was wrong. A mismatch between the address you sent to and the one the site generated for your swap means the coins went somewhere else. The site will never show a transaction it never expected. You need to check the blockchain explorer for the address you actually sent to.
What to check immediately
Open a blockchain explorer for the coin you sent. Paste the transaction ID from your wallet. Confirm that the transaction is confirmed (has at least one confirmation for most coins, more for proof-of-work chains). If it shows as confirmed, the coins are at the destination address.
Now check that destination address. Is it the one the site gave you? If yes, the site should eventually see it. If no, you sent to the wrong address. That is a different problem.
What you can do
Wait. For many swaps, especially on slower chains or during network congestion, the site may take 30 minutes to an hour to reflect a transaction that the blockchain finalized in minutes. Waiting is often the only useful action. Do not send again.
Contact support with the transaction ID. Most swap sites have a support channel. Provide the exact transaction ID and the address you sent from. They can look up whether their system received the payment. If they say they have no record, ask them to check the blockchain themselves. They may be able to credit the swap manually.
Do not trust any third party who contacts you. Scammers monitor blockchain transactions and then message swap users claiming to be support. If someone contacts you asking for your private keys, seed phrase, or a "verification fee," block them. Legitimate support never asks for these.
When the site shows nothing after hours
If more than a few hours have passed and the site still shows nothing, and the blockchain confirms the transaction went to the correct address, the problem is on the site's side. Some possibilities:
- The site's software failed to detect the transaction due to a bug.
- The site's node is down or out of sync.
- The site may have a manual processing queue that is backlogged.
In this situation, your coins are still on the blockchain at the address you sent to. They are not lost - they are sitting there. The site just hasn't acknowledged them. Persist with support. If the site is reputable, they will eventually process the swap or return the funds.
When to treat it as a lost transaction
If the site is unresponsive for days, or if it turns out you sent to an address that was never generated by the site, the coins are unlikely to be recoverable through the swap service. At that point, the transaction is final. No one can reverse it.
